Dr Nadey HAKIM is the Surgical Director of the Transplant Unit at the Hospital Imperial College Healthcare in London.

He is an MD Laureate from the University Paris Descartes, Faculty of Medicine Cochin Port Royal. He did his surgical residency at Guy's Hospital in London and later obtained a PhD from University College London. In addition, he holds a Gastrointestinal Fellowship in Surgery from the Mayo Clinic and a Transplant Fellowship from the University of Minnesota. Dr HAKIM is a prolific author who has published over 150 articles and written / edited 23 books in the field of general surgery, transplants and bariatric surgery. In 1995, he became the first to perform a pancreas transplant and successfully launched a Pancreas Transplant Program in the southeast of England. He was the Editor in Chief of International Surgery (2000-2011) and Emeritus Editor of the same newspaper (2011 to date). He is also on the Editorial Board of Transplantation Proceedings, Graft, Experimental and Clinical Transplantation.

He is a former President of the Transplantation Section of the Royal Society of Medicine (Royal Society of Medicine). In 1998, he represented Britain in the international team that performed the world’s first arm transplant in Lyon, France. He is the First Max Thorek Professor of Surgery. He is a professor in transplant surgery at Imperial College London; Honorary Professor of the University of Lyon, Ricardo Palma in Lima, Peru, the Ankara Başkent University, University of São Paulo, and has been a visiting professor at several institutions around the world, including the Cleveland Harvard Clinic. He was the 35th President of the International College of Surgeons and was awarded the J. Wesley Alexander Research award in the field of transplantation in 2007. From 2009 to 2012, he was a member of the Council of the Royal Society of Medicine and from 2011 to date, he has been the Honorary Secretary of the Royal Society of Medicine. He was elected Bailiff Grand Cross of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in 2010 and an honorary member of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) in 2013. In 2017, he was elected a member of the Academie Française de Chirurgie.
